Repairs

Factory Repairs

Comark offers a Return Material Authorization (RMA) procedure for the return of damaged or defective products for repair. All repairs, both in and out of warranty, are done at our factory in Milford, MA. Purchase Orders are required to process repairs and cover the cost of misuse, damage during shipment due to improper packaging, and incorrect setup, as well as standard repair charges for out of warranty products. You will be notified of any charges prior to execution of repairs and provided a quote with repair costs. Comark will offer repair services on products that are less than 7 years from the original ship date only. Products that are older will need to be replaced by purchasing a new product.

Repair Warranty:

Comark warrants its repaired products to be in good working order for a period of 90 days from the date of shipment for out of warranty repairs. Frequently Asked Questions

Comark single board computers, industrial computers, fanless embedded systems, and panel pcs are compatible with Windows embedded operating systems.  Many systems are available from Comark with Windows Embedded Standard 7 or Windows Embedded Standard 8 operating system images.

Panel mount, VESA mount, and open frame are common mounting styles for industrial touchscreen monitors and panel PCs.

In a panel mount setting, the display or panel pc is placed into a cutout in an enclosure, so the screen is flush with the surface.  Panel mount clips are attached around the back perimeter of the chassis to hold the system snug against the enclosure wall.  The front bezel surrounds the LCD viewing area to cover the edges of the cutout and seal the system from the environment.

VESA mounting refers to a pattern of mounting holes located on the back side of a panel PC or industrial display.  VESA is an industry standard that specifies the distance between mounting holes, so displays from different manufacturers can be used with mounts from different manufacturers.  Any display size with VESA mounting holes will have an unlimited number of mounting options for stands, arms, and wall mounts.

Open frame refers to a mounting style where the display or panel pc is mounted behind an enclosure, so only the viewable LCD area is seen by the user.  A cutout matching the LCD viewing area is made in the enclosure, and the display is mounted inside using the mounting holes provided on the display frame flanges.  A gasket material is placed between the LCD or touch surface and the chassis around the perimeter of the viewable area to provide a seal.

Comark offers a wide range of industrial computers for all applications.  Processor options for these systems include Intel Atom, Celeron, Pentium, i3, i5, i7, and Xeon.  Many HMI or operator interface applications can utilize the low power low cost benefits of Atom processors.  Other applications that require accelerated graphics performance or encoding may benefit from the capabilities of i3, i5, or quad core i7 processors.  If third party software is being installed, the software company typically specifies the system requirements in their documentation.

Simply click the "Request a Quote" button conveniently located on any product page or call the number on the top of the screen to speak with a knowledgeable sales representative who can answer any questions you may have.

First step, contact Comark Technical Support at 1-800-280-8522 x6002 or email TechnicalSupport@comarkcorp.com to see if the problem can be solved over the phone. If unable to solve the problem over the phone, customer will need to submit an RMA request form.  Technical Support will then issue an RMA number for product to be returned.

Industrial computers are considered industrial for two main reasons.

Industrial computers are designed to withstand industrial environments.  This may include high shock and vibration, wide temperature ranges, dusty environments, and exposure to liquids.  These attributes are not characteristic of consumer PCs.

Industrial computers offer long term availability and long life cycle support.  Industrial computers include industrial motherboards and industrial single board computers, which are specifically designed to be available for 5 years or longer.  The industrial motherboards use Intel embedded long life processors and chipsets, which are designated by Intel to be available for 7 years or more from the release date.  The life cycle of an industrial computer typically mirrors the life cycle of the Intel embedded CPU used in the system.  Choosing an industrial computer for an application eliminates the risk of a system being discontinued or changed for several years.  There is no need to worry about a hardware change affecting how the software operates, and there is no need to worry about mechanical redesign of your system due to a discontinued chassis.

Internal dust build-up can reduce system performance and lifespan.  The best solution to protect from this type of contamination is to choose a fanless industrial computer.  Systems with fans have constant airflow that can pull dust into a system and coat components over time.  This can lead to reduced performance and even failure.  Fanless computers reduce dust build-up because they are not pulling airborne particulates into the system.  Some industrial PCs with higher performance processors require a fan.  For these systems, it is recommended to clean the air filter every 6 months.

Mobile environments include applications such as vehicle computers and mobile carts, where a battery is used to power the industrial computer.  There are several considerations when choosing a mobile computer.  First, the system should include a mechanism to shut down when not in use to prevent the battery from draining.  Vehicle pc’s include either an ignition input to accomplish this or a voltage level sensor on the power input.  When the vehicle is turned off, the system is automatically shut down.  It is never recommended to remove power from any computer as a method to shut down, because this can cause corruption of data on the storage device.  Mobile computers offer a mechanism to perform a graceful shut down when triggered.  There are also third party devices that sit externally to industrial PCs that can be used to trigger a graceful shut down, and this allows any industrial PC to act as a mobile computer.

PICMG is the leading standards development organization in the “non desktop,” or embedded computer market.  Many SBC (Single Board Computer) manufacturers follow PICMG standards when developing industrial single board computers.  This allows SBCs from different suppliers to be used interchangeably with a wide variety of backplanes and chassis.  The PICMG SBC standards typically used in industrial automation applications include PICMG 1.3 Full Length, PICMG 1.3 Half Length, PICMG 1.0, and PCISA.

Comark offers several wide temperature industrial computers and wide temperature single board computers.  Many fanless embedded systems are rated for operating temperatures of -20C to +70C.  Some single board computers and industrial motherboards are rated for operating temperatures of -40C to +85C.  When wide operating temperatures are required, industrial temp memory and industrial temp solid state drives are recommended.

Rack mount and wall mount industrial computers typically utilize high efficiency AC power supplies with 90~240VAC / 47~63Hz input and active power factor correction, but they can be equipped with 24VDC, wide range DC, or redundant power supplies if required.

Industrial panel pcs, fanless embedded systems, and industrial displays typically include a wide range DC input between 9~36VDC.  Applications that intend on using an existing 12V or 24V power source can plug this source directly into the system.  If the application only has AC power available, an external AC-to-DC power adapter is used to power the system.

Resistive touchscreens are the most common and most cost effective choice for industrial automation applications.  One benefit of resistive touchscreens is that they can be used with gloved hands.  Resistive touchscreen sizes are available to accommodate LCD sizes up to 24”.

Projected capacitive touchscreens (PCAP touchscreens) are slightly more rugged, as they include a glass substrate, where resistive touchscreens have a polyester layer.  The glass substrate is a harder material and therefore less susceptible to scratching than a resistive touchscreen.  PCAP touchscreens include support for multiple touch points.  This is required for applications that use multi-touch gesturing features like pinch, zoom, and rotate.  PCAP touchscreens can be calibrated for use with thin latex gloves, but they are most commonly used in applications where bare hands or a stylus is being used.

Customers pay shipping back to Comark on suspected damaged/defective product so that Comark can verify the defect.  This verification is required to insure the damage/defective product was not caused by misuse or abuse. The customer is responsible for paying all inbound freight charges for both in-warranty, out of warranty repairs and replacements. Comark is not responsible for any damages that occur during shipment due to improper packaging by the customer or improper handling by the return carrier. It is recommended that all shipments be insured.

- Out of Warranty Repairs will be returned to the customer freight collect or prepaid and added to the invoice, with method of shipment specified by the customer upon repair quote approval.

- All warranty repairs will be shipped back to the customer via Ground Freight, no charge, appropriate for the size and weight of the product. Expedited shipping requests will be billed to the customer's freight account.
