Industrial monitor solutions for mission-critical environments

An industrial monitor is essential when computer equipment is exposed to liquids, weather, hazardous environments, extreme vibration or variation in temperatures. When monitors are not protected from these conditions, reliability suffers, performance breaks down and users are unable to access mission-critical technology.

Comark provides a family of industrial monitors engineered from the ground up to meet the rigorous requirements of harsh and hazardous environments. Comark industrial display solutions are specially designed for industrial automation, fire life and safety/building automation, military and commercial marine settings. Comark offers industrial monitors with either resistive or multi touch configurations.

Industrial monitor requirements

Industrial monitors must overcome a number of challenges in harsh and hazardous environments. Essential criteria for a superior industrial monitor may include:

  • Durability. Industrial monitors must be resistant to extremes in temperature, weather conditions and dust or pollutants in the air. Monitors must also be waterproof and resistant to shock and wear and accommodate harsh physical use.
  • Reliability. Industrial monitors must be built for consistently reliable performance to provide continuous use and support business-critical operations.
  • Long lifecycle. To ensure continuous performance, an industrial computer monitor should ideally provide a 5- to 7-year product support path.
  • Low power consumption. Monitors may be required to operate with less power, for situations where equipment must be powered by batteries or where access to power is limited.
  • Sunlight readability. This capability is critical to environments where direct sunlight would otherwise prevent users from viewing information on the monitor.
  • Customization. Off-the-shelf industrial monitors may be adequate in certain environments, but more often the demands of a particular industrial, military or marine setting will require the manufacturer to modify the equipment for easier access or specific capabilities. In these cases, choosing a provider that can deliver customized equipment quickly is advisable.
  • Certifications. Industry certifications ensure that an industrial display has the proven capabilities and durability to perform as needed in specific settings.

FAQs: what are industrial monitors?

Industrial monitors are designed for industrial or hazardous environments where they may be subject to high shock and vibration, wide variations in temperature, dusty environments and exposure to liquids, sunlight and inclement weather.

Industrial monitors are typically mounted using one of three mounting styles.

  • Panel mounted monitors are placed into a cutout in a display panel enclosure so that the screen is flush with the surface.
  • VESA mounted monitors are attached to a stand, arm or wall mount via standardized mounting hardware on the back of the monitor.
  • Open frame mounted monitors are mounted behind an enclosure so that the user only sees the viewable LCD area.
